Questions that are often asked

a) Are the ground exams difficult?
No - but you will have to do some studying. Ground school, including 1:1 instruction is available. Generally however, directed self study, plus some ground tuition from your instructor, is normally sufficient.

b) How long will it take?
This depends on you. In order to meet your individual requirements, we provide anything from a 5 week full time course, to a more leisurely training programme lasting up to a year or more.

c) Is the medical demanding?
Providing you are in good health, the medical should not be a problem. However, it does have to be conducted by a CAA authorized medical examiner. We can provide details of a doctor who is local to you.

d) How do I keep my license valid?
You will have to renew your license after 5 years (via a form sent to the CAA). You will also have to keep your helicopter "Type Rating" valid. This will require you to carry out a proficiency test each year including a total of 2 hours or more on that type (the test flight time can make up part of the 2 hours).

e) Do I have to commit myself to a course?
No. You do not have to commit yourself to a complete course with a particular flying school, however you mustn’t embark on training if you knowingly cannot achieve a license i.e. for medical reasons etc
